Delivery channels

Push notifications

Available on iOS, Android, and desktop apps. Users can configure push notifications per channel:

  • Immediate — Notification sent as soon as the post is published
  • Batched — Notifications grouped and sent hourly
  • Off — No push notifications for this channel

Email digest

Email digests summarize recent posts. Available frequencies:

  • Real-time — One email per post
  • Daily — Summary sent each morning
  • Weekly — Summary sent Monday mornings
  • Off — No email notifications

In-app

In-app notifications always appear in the notification bell in the top nav. These cannot be disabled and serve as the baseline notification method.

Priority levels

Posts can be published with different priority levels that affect notification behavior:

PriorityBehavior
NormalFollows user's notification preferences
HighHighlighted in feed, badge count incremented
UrgentBypasses all preferences, sends immediate push and email to all subscribers

Only workspace admins and channel admins can publish urgent posts. Use this sparingly — overuse reduces its effectiveness.

Quiet hours

Users can set quiet hours in Settings > Notifications > Quiet Hours. During quiet hours:

  • Push notifications are silenced
  • Email digests are delayed until quiet hours end
  • Urgent posts still break through quiet hours

Notification preferences

Each user controls their own preferences at two levels:

  1. Global defaults — Applied to all channels unless overridden
  2. Per-channel overrides — Custom settings for specific channels

Access these at Settings > Notifications.
