Channels
Organize content by department, topic, or team
Channels are how content is organized in Firmreader. Each channel has its own feed, subscriber list, and set of publishers.
Creating a channel
Navigate to Channels > New Channel and fill in the details:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Display name (e.g., "Engineering Updates") |
| Slug | URL-friendly identifier, auto-generated from name |
| Description | Short summary shown to subscribers |
| Visibility | Who can see this channel |
| Default | Whether new members are auto-subscribed |
Visibility options
| Visibility | Who can see it | Who can subscribe |
|---|---|---|
| Organization | Everyone in the workspace | Everyone |
| Team | Members of a specific team | Team members only |
| Private | Invited members only | By invitation |
Private channels are not discoverable in search. Members must be explicitly invited by a channel admin.
Managing subscribers
Channel admins can manage subscribers from the channel settings page. Options include:
- Auto-subscribe all members — Every current and future workspace member is automatically subscribed.
- Auto-subscribe by team — Members of specific teams are auto-subscribed when they join.
- Manual — Members subscribe themselves from the channel directory.
Channel roles
| Role | Permissions |
|---|---|
| Channel Admin | Manage settings, subscribers, and publishers |
| Publisher | Create and edit posts in the channel |
| Subscriber | Read posts and receive notifications |
Pinned posts
Pin important posts to the top of a channel feed. Pinned posts stay visible regardless of when they were published. Each channel supports up to 3 pinned posts.
To pin a post, click the three-dot menu on any post and select Pin to channel.
Archiving channels
Archived channels are read-only. Existing content is preserved but no new posts can be published. Go to Channel Settings > Archive to archive a channel. Archived channels can be restored at any time.
